Play Arts Kai Robin - Arkham City Review

While waiting for the lovely, rebooted Play Arts Kai Ms.Croft and the Kazama-Mishima couple i decided to (lowers voice in shame...) present this very late review of the Play Arts Kai Robin from Arkham City. I'm quite surprised that little Timmy here is pretty hard to find locally while the more popular, albeit lesser (quality-wise) version of Bruce is still running rampant at the local gaming store.
The only logical conclusions i can draw are, 1-one, most collectors are sticking it out with their Arkham Asylum Batmen over the AC Bats and, 2-two,  see number 1-one. LOL. Seriously, there are more Batmen options than Robin so i guess that's that. It took me a while to locate him also and it went down to the last 2 pieces i can find about a month ago.

And i owe you a review for being such a pain in the @$$ to find...
Anyway, Tim Drake is the new Robin we're seeing here. He replaced the previous Robin (Jason Todd) who was murdered by The Joker.
In-game Robin's packing some interesting gadgets: his shurikens, snap flashes and smoke pellets but unfortunately only his Bo Staff made it to the Play Arts Kai version (boo!). He's got a pair of alternate hands also but that's about it. His hood isn't removable and if you did remove it there's just a bald head under there laced with glue and some black paint. If i could i would try to do a custom hair-piece (Chris O'Donnel style) for him but that's beyond my skills.

As seen on the last four pics, the only redeeming quality of Robin is his sculpt which is far from spectacular but certainly well-made. In fact, his overall paint applications is better than Batman's and Catwoman's. His sculpt proportions are also consistent - check out Batman's upper legs and you'll know what i mean. There's not much going on in his costume design but i'm really not expecting much since that's what Robin is known for since time immemorial. No wonder Dick decided to ditch this costume for a super cool Nightwing one. At least Tim is spared of the shame of donning a diaper, stockings and a pair of elf shoes.
His height is consistent with his game counterpart, about as tall as the AC Batman but bigger than the Arkham Asylum Bats. His proportioned legs though make him look taller. Should you get Tim? Well, he's meant to go together with Batman so even if i'm not really a fan of Robin i still got him for completion. I guess that's the mindset of most you anyway that's why the Play Arts Kai Robin is pretty hard to come by right now. I just hope Nightwing is already planned for a future release, his costume alone is a welcome change.
Boyz in the hood...

A small payback for all those "Robin slap" memes

  1. Pretty cool figure, not a priority but if i find him for a lower price (assuming theres no bootlegs of him) i might get him. Im still anxious for sons of liberty raiden and liquid. I guess my priorities for PAK has always been metal gear and (some but most) of the arkham asylum/ city batman line. Except that ugly fat batman they made for arkham city line. Am i alone on this? Whats with that figure?!?! Awesome review!!

    1. to be honest, i find that Batman interesting. The reason i don't have him yet is because of the other upcoming releases. Might grab that when i get the chance.

    2. I understand dude, everyone has their perspectives and opinions and thats cool. I was just being opinionated haha. Mostly from all the reviews ive seen of him, its mostly the eyes. They look soo low. But no criticism here, i was just saying :)

    1. Yeah same here... I look at my metal gear kais and then my arkham kais and i just wish they were bigger!! His scale is definitely awesome, kinda like the AC batman but inly thing i dont like is the long upper legs as youve stated haha anf his head doesn't look as cool as the AA batman.

  4. hi, i've been reading your blog for some time now, but i never posted on the comments, congrats on having an informative site on figures for people who like them (like me), it is a great help to have reviews up whenever i want to check out a figure haha... i recently bough my first 2 pak figures, and as usual with pak i have the doubt if these are bootleg or not... got them from ebay (i know, bad move there), and both have me in doubt of being the real thing... could you help me find out if they are real or not? (they are squall dissidia ver, and snake battle dress ver), and again, great site :)

  5. thanks dude, here is my email: keiichiferrer@hotmail.com, what is weird about these is that they have some suspicious things but not all of them (circular tapes, serial numbers), so they are either originals with several quality issues, or improved bootlegs, i'll send you pics when you contact me, greetings, and again, thanks!
