SHFiguarts Piccolo - Dragon Ball Z Showcase

I've heard about this pretty nifty line from SHFiguarts and though i must admit i was turned away by some of the overpriced early figures (Trunks anyone?) I'm still glad to know that there is a considerable chance for a reissue, well, like this Namekian over here... courtesy of Greattoys Online, i'd just like to mention...
As a 90's Child i grew up with Dragonball / Dragonball Z, i think this is hands-down the favorite anime series of the 90's, well, at least for boys who knew the characters by heart. Originally an antagonist, the son of King Piccolo, he eventually became one of the most known and beloved protagonist and ally in the Dragonball franchise. Here is Piccolo in his full SHF glory...

The first thing i love about SHF is the sheer number of accessories and alternate parts. The alt heads actually captured a lot of Piccolo's familiar expressions in the anime series...
You get a couple of alt-heads, some cape pieces, his cape, a pair of posed arms, a couple of pairs of alt-hands and an extra hand for pew, pew, pew poses.

Meanwhile, the other parts (arms, hands, cape) allows you to re-enact some of his famous stances...

Such as this one...
"Feel better, Tylenol!"
and this one...goddamn, i've always loved that folded arms pose, he look so bad-ass...

Sculpt is the real highlight of this figure, he looks exactly like the Piccolo we are all familiar with. Articulation is top-notched for a small-scale figure and of course, you'll get superb paint apps - something SHF is very good at.

I don't see much Con but they could have added a Beam Cannon accessory so he can actually do some combat scenes. The cape accessory also hinder some arm movement when equipped limiting his poses. I'm not sure if it's an isolated issue but his folded arms accessory is a bit hard to attach. That's not the case though with the Scouter Vegeta figure so i'm assuming it's just a QC issue on my Piccolo.
The SHF DBZ line looks very promising, i just hope their prices don't spike up too much since it'll be very difficult to backtrack if that happens. The good news though is that Piccolo,Gohan and the regular Gokou figures are still easy to acquire (thank you reissue!) so it's a perfect opportunity for a DBZ fan to get into the action. Greattoys Online are officially distributing these locally. Check them out.

  1. The problem with re issues is Bandai can't re-issue Web exclusives (everything after Gohan; Goku and Piccolo came before him) so Vegeta, Trunks..everything else may just be one time runs. It's not really explained why, but it's annoying.
